At last we have negotiated a lease on a shop at the heart of Dumbiedykes, which will be our 20 More base and a community shop.
Local women have been meeting these last few weeks to plan a bulk-buying initiative by which we get cheap wholesale goods and split them for community members to buy that at cost. A survey has gone round the doors but nothing seemed real until we got the shop - and thankfully, it does have some old shop display units still inside - along with a lot of rubble to clear, a floor that looks like it survived a war, and a very freezing, heaterless interior.
But there has been a really warm response from the community - countless people can't resist poking their heads in the door and asking what's going on, and offering to help. Yes!! It's community work and people are coming together!! and we love it.
